A few months ago, I wrote about how I began making my own liquid hand soap. I love doing it, and recently found a new recipe that gives me an even better consistency in the final product.

Here is what my batch looked like by the time it had cooled:

I had to use a handheld mixer to make it a liquid again and, so far, I am very pleased with the results.

Making my own liquid hand soap is one of my favorite things to do. I wash my hands a lot (two small children at home. Enough said) and my hands always looked dry and awful because the soap I had been using was just too strong. Then I switched to soap with natural ingredients, which I Loved, but was expensive.

Inspired by this post at Heavenly Homemakers, I began to make my own. It is wonderful! Gentler, even, than the pricey soap I was buying, and so affordable that I can splurge on a really nice bar soap and still get a gallon out of it. I will not be going back to the commercial liquid hand soaps.

This is how I make it:
In a heavy pot, heat 16 cups of water until just steaming. In the meantime, grate a 4oz. bar of soap. When the water is ready, pour the soap in and mix. Let cool. Laura (Heavenly Homemakers has a couple of extra steps, but this is how I’ve done it and I’ve been pleased with the results.
